TOWARDS THE FATHER

The School has set out its mission in the following terms.

Christ’s Mission to humanity was conducted in a spirit of love and understanding, especially of the poor, disadvantaged and those in need of love.  This spirit must manifest itself in our school in terms of mutual  respect, understanding, care and support.

We should always be aware of the dangers of prejudice and, through our religious teaching, attempt to
show that God’s love is for all, regardless of race, colour, creed or sex.  Of particular importance in
today’s society is the need for our children to recognise the damaging and painful effects of sexual and
racial discrimination.  If we are to prepare our children to live their lives in the spirit of Christ, we must emphasise the uniqueness of the individual, regardless of sex or colour, and the love Christ has for all mankind.

In His life on earth Jesus sought to destroy, and was Himself the victim of prejudice.  We must attempt
to remove prejudice from our own and our children’s lives.

We must ensure that no group within our society is isolated or abused.  As Christians we must make
clear to our children that our faith and school values all cultures and languages equally, and that following the teachings of Christ, we are, as a community, committed to equality and justice for all.

We, as a staff, must be totally aware of our responsibilities in developing the love and the spirit of Christ
in the minds of the children we teach.  Our example and our own relationships should always reflect this spirit, it is not something that can be taught under a ‘specific’ subject area, i.e. Religious Education.  God
is at the centre of all life and learning within the school.  The school ethos, therefore, is realised through
the day today life of the school.  It is the responsibility of every member of the school community to contribute to the creation of the desired ethos.

One area which must greatly concern the teaching staff is the ability to assess the needs of individual children.  We must endeavour to enable all children in our care to develop their God given gifts.  Each
child is an individual, each has their own special talent.  It is our responsibility to assist the growth of each child so that they may fulfill their potential and develop such talents for their own benefit and for the
benefit of others within our community.

Our role as religious educators is one which must never be under-estimated.  We must, as Jesus Christ Himself did, try to touch the hearts and minds of those we teach and help them to move even closer on
their own faith journey to the Father.
